What Is Ludo?

Player Profiles and Turns

Ludo Board Layout

How to Play Ludo Complete Beginner’s Guide
01. Setup the Board
Each player chooses a color (red, blue, green, or yellow) and places their four tokens in the starting area.
02. Decide Who Starts
All players roll the dice once. The player who rolls the highest number goes first.
03. Roll a Six to Begin
To move a token onto the board, you must roll a six. Once you roll a six, place a token on your starting square and roll again for another move.
04. Move Tokens Forward
On your turn, roll the dice and move one token forward by the number shown. Tokens move clockwise around the board.
05. Capture Opponents
If your token lands on a square with an opponent’s single token, that token is sent back to its starting area. Tokens on safe squares cannot be captured.
06. Enter the Home Column
After completing a full round, move your token up your color’s home column toward the center. You must roll the exact number needed to reach home.
07. Use Sixes Wisely
Rolling a six allows an extra turn. Use it smartly bring a new token out or move an existing one closer to home. Rolling three sixes in a row may skip your next turn depending on house rules.
08. Reach the Home Triangle
Once a token enters the home column, keep moving it up until it reaches the center. You need exact dice rolls to reach the home triangle.
09. Win the Match
The first player to get all four tokens into their home triangle wins the game.
